Problem is, he didn't factor in some major parts of the equation, like how he was going to explain it to US citizens (the number of varying excuses and denial of those excuses, day by day, was almost laughable). There was absolutely no planning to get American citizens out of the Middle East – did they not think there would be repercussions?
